Inf-sup condition and Banach-Necas-Babuska theorem

TALK TITLE: Inf-sup condition and Banach-Necas-Babuska theorem
 
ABSTRACT: I will talk about the application of the Banach-Necas-Babuska theorem to the study of elliptic differential equations. In particular, the existence and uniqueness of the solution to such problem, as well as the convergence of the corresponding Galerkin method, will be presented. The main difficulty in the above analysis is the verification of the so-called inf-sup condition in both continuous and discrete cases. I will show how to ensure this in the case of particular class of differential equations.
