The success of prof. Stanisław Migórski in the Horizon 2020 program

The proposal of prof. Stanisława Migórskiego from the Chair of Optimization and Control Theory gained the recognition of experts and financing in the amount of 644 000 EUR in the competition Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange under the Horizon 2020 program.

The main goal of the "Nonsmooth Contact Dynamics" project (CONMECH), headed by prof. Stanisław Migórski is creating a joint training and research program based on the latest technologies, which will strengthen the cooperation of ten partner institutions from eight countries - Poland, France, Romania, Spain, Argentina, Australia, China and the United States - in the field of non-smooth mechanics, inclusions in Banach space, as well as optimal control and computational algorithms in non-smooth problems.

The estimated duration of the project is 48 months. Within its framework, several exchanges of scientific employees will take place between partner institutions.

The creation of the said program will contribute to a better understanding of the issues under examination. The result will also be the publication of a two-volume monograph and a joint scientific publication with high citation, which will constitute a solid basis for long-term cooperation of institutions participating in the project. There are also planned trainings, meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences that will be used to transfer the knowledge and experience gained to interested researchers.

From the scientific perspective, it will be important to develop new and non-standard mathematical and numerical tools for analyzing the issues of contact mechanics that are of fundamental importance for technology, industry and engineering. Detailed research will not only enable better understanding of contact mechanics, but also allow for improvement of currently used industrial solutions.

It should be emphasized that this is another project of prof. Stanisław Migórski financed under the framework programs of the EU, in which the Jagiellonian University acts as a coordinator.

Apart from the Jagiellonian University, members of the consortium are: University of Perpignan Via Domitia (France), University of Craiova (Romania), University of A Coruna (Spain) and partners: University of Iowa (USA), Oakland University (USA), Austral University ( Argentina), Federation University Australia (Australia), Zhejiang University (China), Guangxi University for Nationalities (China).
